People ask me all the time: Is there any hope left? Has America slid beyond fixing, beyond grasp, beyond redemption?
After a deep breath, my answer is always the same: No. It hasn’t. For the same reasons this country is being torn down, it can be rebuilt, because America is what we make of it.
I refuse to walk away from that flickering candle in the darkness, and I urge you not to either.
Yes, things will likely get worse before they get better. That reality tests our ability to stay engaged, stay sane, and stay hopeful. But the light has not gone out. Voices are rising. People are fighting back everywhere you look. I promise you, if you look you will find them, perhaps in the mirror?
Friends of mine in the nonprofit world tell me they’re stripping words from grant proposals to avoid being shut down. Is it awful they have to do this? Absolutely. But they keep doing the work anyway. And so must we. This is not the moment to let despair deplete us completely. It’s the moment to hold fast, to stand up, and to keep that candle burning.
So here’s my ask of you today, please reply to this post with ways you are seeing people fight back, ways you are fighting back and how you’re staying sane while we endure this administration and all of it’s enablers.
I am here to fight alongside you, to bring attention to those on the front lines and help direct your donations to winning candidates and causes. If you’re looking to chip in a few bucks HERE is where I think you should start, this post has tons of ways to step up financially, even a $5 donation can help, imagine if we all did that?
So on this Sunday evening, I ask you to stay in the fight. Stay with me, it’s awful and exhausting but we’re in it together.
Love you,
Lindsay
Thank you Lindsay. I have been fighting the despair engendered by this administration. At almost 80, I grew up with parents who were well versed in WWII and the Hitler era. Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. That said I do what I can to take care of others, to remain positive and hopeful that our country will recover its sanity. But we must all do our part.
Thank you for this! I’ve been writing postcards for and sending money to candidates who are prepared to fight back. And calling my reps daily.
I recently realized that I’ve been allowing it all to drown out my joy and creativity. So I’m fighting back by taking actual breaks to create again. Right now that mostly means organizing my stash so I can use it and be inspired, but I already feel better!
